About Magician Matt Matthews
Matt Matthews (formerly known as Matt The Balloon Man) is a resident of Wallingford, CT. Matt lives with his wife and two children on Cook Hill Road (near the Oakdale theater) where his kids – Emily and Kaylee – attend Cook Hill and Parker Farms elementary schools, respectively.
Matt Matthews has been performing magic since he was a child. “My parents weren’t together, but I saw my father every weekend,” Matt says. “There was a hobby shop somewhere in Connecticut that he would frequent, and most weekends when I’d see him he’d have bought some new magic trick off the spinner rack. He’d perform the trick for me and then always teach me how it was done. They say a magician isn’t supposed to reveal how the trick is done, that’s what hooked me! To this day, one of those early tricks he taught me is still in almost every professional show that I do, whether it’s a close up performance for just one person, a birthday party in front of 10 kids, or on stage at an elementary school in front of 300 children!
Matt Matthews started performing professionally after his daughter was born. “I’d always loved to perform magic, and with a new baby in the house money got tight for a little while, so I started performing at kids’ birthday parties as a side hustle. It turned out that I really loved it and people seemed to think I was pretty good! Now I’ve actually turned it in to my career. They say that if you do the thing you love you’ll never work a day in your life, and I think that’s about right for me. My job is literally to act like a fool and make kids laugh so hard they nearly pee themselves. That’s literally my job, and I love it!”

Where To host a Party In Wallingford
Most people will host a party at their home. In warm weather months you can hold your party outside, but in the winter months (and during inclement weather) you want to have an indoor location. “If you don’t have space at your home for a party, the David Doherty Municipal Building has a beautiful location that can be rented out through the Wallingford Parks and Recreation Department,” says Matt Matthews. “We held my daughter’s 5th birthday party there and it was an awesome space with really affordable rates!”
And don’t forget the restaurants! “Wallingford is home to some of the best restaurants in the state,” Matt says, “adding quickly, “though I may be biased.” While Gaetano’s On Main has a semi-private room for parties, it may not be the most conducive space to hosting a magic show. “though I think one of Wallingford’s hidden gems is Serafino’s on South Turnpike Rd.” Serafino’s – located within spitting distance of the Oakdale Theater, has a private reception room that’s spacious enough for your guests and the entertainment. “And the food is frankly amazing,” Matt notes.
